Herbert Israel Rona, Great Grandson of Israel Beal who was one of the First African American Pioneers that helped with the development of the City of Redlands, passed away on June 14, 2017. He was 88 years old.
He was born and raised in Redlands, California on April 15, 1929 to Beatrice Isabelle Beal and Leonard Paulino Rona who was from the Philippines.
Herbert Israel Rona completed the 10th Grade from San Bernardino High School, and received his G.E.D Diploma in 1970. He Completed Technical Training in Computer and Data Processing in 1972....

He was born and raised in Redlands, California on April 15, 1929 to Beatrice Isabelle Beal and Leonard Paulino Rona who was from the Philippines.
Herbert Israel Rona completed the 10th Grade from San Bernardino High School, and received his G.E.D Diploma in 1970. He Completed Technical Training in Computer and Data Processing in 1972.
He was married to Ruby Lean Thompson on July 13, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Herbert Israel Rona worked for the County of San Bernardino for 14 ½ years as a Computer Operator, and 8 ½ Years as a Custodian. He Retired from the County of San Bernardino on November 4, 1989.
His Military Branch of Service Includes:
Active Duty: United States Navy May 15, 1946 - April 5, 1948, USN R/S, NS Long Beach, California.
He received the World War II Victory Medal in 1946 from The United States Navy.
Grade Rank: Steward's Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer.
Korean War:
United States Air Force: January 15, 1950 - September 15, 1953, Sherman Air Force Base, Sherman Texas.
He was an Honorary Member of the Perris Ultralight Squadron of America since 1985, where he received a Certificate of Honorary Membership.
His hobbies were building and flying radio-controlled model airplanes, flying his Ultralight, as well as, displaying his Ultralight at Military Airshows.
He was survived by his wife Ruby Lean Rona and 8 children: Leonard Rona (wife Paula), Angela Wilkinson (husband Bruce), Michael Rona (wife Wren), Deborah Rona (Dennis), Yolinda Jewell (husband Tony), Charles Rona, Michele Gentry, and Pamela Rona.
He is also survived by 1 half-brother Manuel Garcia, 3 sister in-laws (Annie Marie Hazzard, Vanda Thompson, Helen Thompson), and one brother In-law (Tobe Thompson). 9 Grandchildren: Anthony Rona, Feliciann Rona, Nicole Ingham, Aaron Ingham, Alyssa Jewell, Rachael Young, Kevin Gentry, Kyla Rona and Lela Rona. 8 Great Grand Children and a host of Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10:00 am, June 21, 2017, Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary 3520 E. Washington Street, Colton, CA 92324.
